What Are You Waiting for? Get Going!

Now I Lay me down to sleep...”

How many human beings would love the luxury of a good nights sleep, but cannot due to: The ravages of sickness and disease; perhaps sleepless nights keeping watch in the midst of their war-torn communities; or as traumatized victims of weather and climatic upheavals rendering them homeless.

“… I pray the Lord my soul to keep…”

Wallace in 1975, three years after he was paralyzed in an assassination attempt. In his later years, Wallace reached out to civil rights activists and black churches to ask forgiveness.

Not widely reported outside of his home state, but Governor George Wallace; the radically racist Governor of Alabama (circa 1960’s); repented and spent his last days in philanthropic endeavors inclusive of all-Black Churches whose members came to forgive,  love and accept him as “Just another sinner saved by grace, like the rest of us.”

” If I should die before I wake…”

There are no ‘Do-Over’s

The Psalmist says our lives are as a ‘Vapor’, a mist. We are as delicate and substantive as the morning fog.

We interact with one another in life as members of a grand concert in a huge orchestra.

We take center-stage in our life-solo as the Director and lead performer until we bow out.

Be ‘Awake’ to what is truly your important part in this concerto.

Play it for all you’re worth!

“… I pray the Lord my soul to take…”

Be Blessed!

Prayer Changes---Things

FISCAL CLIFF: The Holy Bible tells us: “Been there, Done that.”

Let’s investigate for ourselves in the book of Zechariah (just two books backwards from the beginning of the New Testament as in: Matthew, Malachi, Zechariah… got it?).

Once you arrive at the book of Zechariah, we want to focus for this study on chapter 7, verses 9 through 14 (The end of the chapter).

A little background: When Israel was prosperous, well populated and flowing with commerce through the blessings and grace of the Lord God; they got greedy, selfish and withholding among themselves and other nations. They forgot God and from Whom all their blessings flowed. It became a lot of religious lip service, power grabbing and divisiveness at every level.   ‘Hmm… sound familiar?’

Our Heavenly Father got fed up and empowered the Babylonians and others to ride in and topple the whole system as well as carry off the inhabitants of Israel to become imprisoned (captives) in foreign lands for seventy years. Whew! That’s a long time.

However, at this point they have now been freed after seventy years (70 years) of captivity to re-inhabit Israel. The people want to know if they should keep the same solemn fasts and prayer vigils that they kept while in captivity… or just skip it since they were now back home?

One of the prophets {Zechariah} heard from the Lord and answered the people. Verses 9-14 are what our Lord God replies; reminding them through His prophet, Zechariah, how things used to be and how they got in the predicament in the first place. It is the same truth we can apply to ourselves here in America 2012/2013 as we near the so-called Fiscal Cliff.

“This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner (immigrant) or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’

Now doesn’t that sound like it was plucked straight out of a leading news story today? The criminal justice system in the USA has been corrupted; the hardest hit in our society are the senior citizens; the largest number of people in poverty within the United States are below the age of fifteen years old; the most aggressive laws within the United States are centered around deportation of “foreigner’s, illegal immigrants;” and the highest rise of mass killings without mercy or compassion, but showing an intelligent plan (plot) have all happened within a country that sang about how, “God shed His grace on thee and crowned thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.”

However, the Lord our God continues to speak through His prophet, Zechariah…

11 “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears.12 They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry.

Has anyone asked themselves, “What is going on with our crops and food resources?” Our food is not nourishing us but poisoning us with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension; especially in our children; which is our next generation, our future and strength. Why is this all happening?

13 “When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.14 ‘I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.”

Let us pause and reflect on the last line of the 14th verse:
This is how THEY made the pleasant land desolate.

We are each responsible for our country, our rulers, our brothers and sisters whom we have never met… our neighbor.

Pray for those who have the rule over you [Hebrews 13:7].

We ask for your obedience in this, inclusive of All government officials, whether you voted for them or not. Pray without ceasing, calling on the name of the Lord. Pray that our Heavenly Father will have mercy and bless America again. Fast from: Texting, gaming, chatting, sex ting?  and so much TV watching… Fast and pray a solemn prayer of repentance; calling on the name of our Lord Jesus.

…and as always:  Be Blessed! The Lightkeeper

Road to Damascus, Again

4 12 2012
Beautiful Damascus

Beautiful Damascus

Turn on the National news in the U.S.A. and you’ll invariably hear something about the tragedy and trials of the city of Damascus.

As an average American Christian; other than having learned the account about the Apostle Paul, back when he was still ‘Saul‘, regarding his having had a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ while, ‘On the Road to Damascus,’ I guess most of us don’t know a whole heck of a lot about the city of Damascus.

Well, that all changed for this author when a comment came in about one of our Blogs from a lovely young woman named, Rhula, of Damascus. She sent her picture, she subscribed, she ‘Liked’ us and sent a lovely comment that “as a Christian, she found TN Lighthouse Ministry very interesting and enjoyable.” We are still humbled.

Over the many months as we have heard news of Damascus, Rhula has come to mind and we are always mindful to remember her in our prayers for safety and peace for she and all the people of Damascus.

I am asking the reader’s and even casual lookie-loo’s to this Blog to remember Rhula in your prayers. Remember that there are living human beings… men, women and children behind the headlines.

Many in Damascus have already died and many will not live to see the end of this very day. We are reminded of the souls of the martyrs that live beneath the very altar of Jehovah-God, Almighty and cry out to Him…

“How long? and He replies to them… “Not long!”

Another soul of a martyr that resides there is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who seemed to know prophetically that soon he too would join his brothers and sisters beneath that altar. Listen to his speech (Link below).

Remember Rhula, remember Damascus and remember to pray without ceasing.

As always… Be Blessed!

Scripture Keys:

  • Saul on the road to Damascus: Acts 9:1-5
  • Souls of the martyrs under the altar of God: Revelation 6:9-10-11

We Covet your prayers, we Thank you for your Giving and we Love to Hear from You!  cca

I S-cream, You S-cream, We All S-cream…Let’s Stop Screaming

21 09 2012
We All Scream for Ice Cream

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

All over the world, there are many good ideas and opinions. There are many good ideas that seemed like good ideas at the time, but they just didn’t work out; like slavery in the United States. To the slave industrial market of the 17th century,  it didn’t seem like a bad idea… until it wasn’t. Slaves sang:

O Freedom, O freedom, O freedom over me… And before I’ll be a slave, I’ll be buried in my grave and go home to my Lord and be free.” Many made good on that promise.

Perhaps today, the American Slave would be depicted in the news as ‘ungrateful Jihaddists.’ Also today, the ‘Children of Israel‘ making their ‘Exodus’ would have been considered ‘illegal aliens’ in the “Promised Land” as many still hold that same opinion today. Selah (meaning to pause and reflect)

There is a lot of chatter out in the world today Beloveds’ and we have to understand our presence in the world as Christians. We must always make our first consideration: What is written? What does the word of God have to say on this subject or that situation?

In several of the Gospels, we see a record of our Lord Jesus being tempted in the wilderness by Satan himself. Note that Jesus’ temptation came on the heels of His being tired, hungry and isolated from family and friends. Isn’t that when we all seem to be at our most vulnerable? Additionally, this temptation came at the decision point of a great undertaking for Father-God… Jesus’ assignment and agreement to be, The Christ… to take away and upon Himself,  the sins of all human beings on earth; in fact, the sin (downfall) of all creation.

In the Book of Luke, chapter 4:1-12, we see that Jesus spoke to the Arch Angel, Satan-himself; to tell him three times [Note: Holy Trinity]; precisely and concisely that: “…It is written…”

Vs. 4- “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”

Vs. 8- “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.”

Vs. 12- “You shall not tempt the Lord your God.”

As mentioned, there is a lot of chatter out in the world today, but some things are truths that do not change (if you are indeed a Christian).

  • We pray for the peace of Jerusalem
  • We extend kindness and charity to everyone we encounter; considering that we would have them do the same on our behalf.
  • We raise up generations after us to respect and honor the word of God and their fellow human beings, created in the very image of God.

POP QUIZ: You’ve just been mugged, beaten and left semi-conscious on the curb without an iPhone. Whom would you rather have stroll around the corner to discover you: The “good” Samaritan that without hesitation, tends to you immediately with care and concern or the “Rich young ruler” {all show and no dough…. all hat and no cattle…} who dots his ‘i’ and crosses his ‘t’ to perfection?

We all have opinions, however, the word of God comes first for Believer’s. Let’s stop screaming.

Be Blessed!

Needing A Word

16 09 2012

Courage

A man finds joy in giving an apt reply—

and how good is a timely word! Proverbs 15:23

In July the Lightkeeper wrote a letter to Dr. Maya Angelou, the Nobel Laureate, regarding the partisan idiocy we are hearing from the Washington DC Beltway folks; destroying the very soul of our country. I indicated my belief that many of the people involved are not ‘evil’ or ‘bad’, but weak, because they know better.

In the letter I told Dr. Angelou we (America) need a “word” and that God had gifted her with the very word we need right now as a nation. I told her “I know-that-I-know” this word resided within her and to please prayerfully consider it …and give it.

Let me assure you, I’ve never done anything like this before; however, to not write to her was akin to skipping a few needed breaths at that moment and so I complied with the Spirit and wrote the letter.

Long-story-short… Dr. Maya Angelou replied during a rare interview, Sunday September 16th to my query. Her heart (you could tell was full)… she shook her head and brought that word  up out of the depths of her soul. The word she spoke; good for the whole: “courage.” May we all attain a triple dose.

Be Blessed!

LIGHTS, ACTION… Huh?

28 03 2012

So when it was day six of my various electronic malfunctions, I got to thinking:  Wait… huh, day six? Yes, I know: Compared to the horrible, tragic things going on in the world today (near and far); my household electronic malaise seem quite trivial.

However, when you get up a full head of steam, finally stop procrastinating and drag out the “Pet Eradicator” (that would be the vacuum cleaner since all three pets abhor the thing-they’re now caucusing to contact the P.P.P. ~ Pet Protection Patrol on me for scaring them weekly), but the ‘Pet Eradicator’ doesn’t work… click-click, nothing.

Mumbling incoherently, I march off to do some other useful, necessary task: Make lunch for Dear Hubby and me. So okay– it’s after two o’clock, but there was all of that Emailing and E-replying and the most important of all, the E-Courtesy O.P.B. (Other People’s Blogs) to review.

Hmm, what’s that dripping sound? Why is the frozen grape juice slushy? That’s odd: Also, the turkey breast lunch meat and Provolone cheese are flavorful and room temp instead of tasteless, cold and difficult to peel off into slices… how curious.

My last coherent, normalized words that I can recall from six days ago ended with, “Want some ice in your juice, Hon?” Positioning the cup, I was prepared to do my usual juggling act of catching stray cubes that are determined to commit suicide-by-floor. Instead, however, slightly cool water came streaming out of the in-door-ice dispenser…click, click…huh?

More incoherent mumbling, as I march over to the phone to call whatshisname, you know…the repair guy from… you know; as my Dear One sits quietly munching his room temp turkey on wheat with warm grape juice; mildly interested.

Okay, maybe whatshername remembers the repair guys name so I can give him a call; I can remember her number, but my brain seems to be flickering in and out in spurts like static irritation. There is no dial tone…click, click…huh?

Okay, has the world ended? Are we ‘Left Behind?’ It’s time to turn on the TV. That’s right; you guessed it… click, click…Oforgetaboutit!

Fleetingly, I recall Blogging about “Decisions” and being responsible for making “Choices.” Yeah, right, uh huh. So I decided to sit down, finish my sandwich, drink my warm juice and say, “Thank you Jesus.” My Dear One has respiratory situations and should not be unduly stressed; that’s why he has me: I get stressed enough for a family of six (but that’s another posting).

While munching the sandwich (being room temperature really brings out the flavor-that’s so interesting), the other side of my brain is hatching a plan to get in the car and drive 2 miles next door to see if their phone lines are still working… All of us out here are connected to phone, television, satellite/Wi-Fi: Happy Bundling! Why, why did I fall for bundling? That service rep girl was so sweet, she was in college, a nice American girl with a job (in America—Hallelujah) and she found the most wonderful discounts for us… what a cute little accent from deep down South she had…aww. Now I’m bundled! Ugh!

O, I hear you snickering out there: ‘Just use your cell and call the phone company, silly goose!’ Well, Star Tech, I haven’t fulfilled that part of my to-do list, cell-battery-wise, since December or something. Okay?

Unceremoniously arriving at my neighbors, they were offline too, but wonder-of-wonders… their cell phone worked! I called the phone company (yeah, take a number whydoncha), called whatshisname the frig repair guy since I was already at whatshername’s house. She gave me a cold diet 7Up (ahhbless you my child) and allowed me to whine all over her kitchen table unencumbered.

Weary and disconnected, I returned home to Dear Hubby, dog, dog and cat (my family). Suddenly my Dear One says, “Quick, what Scripture comes to mind for this situation?” Blinking, I was amazed that, ‘NOW,’ now, of all times you want to play our little game of “Name That Scripture?” I restrained myself from replying, “Jesus wept.”

Later I couldn’t stop thinking of his question and here are just a few of the answers that the Holy Spirit floated to me when I simply sat peacefully: TV-free; PC-free and phone-free. I believe these Scriptures need no explanation. I believe my Heavenly Father wanted some quality-face-time with me and He didn’t want to be fit into my abundant E-schedule:

  • You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
  • “…because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. I John 4:4(b)
  • There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…  I John 4:18 (a)
  • To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens  Ecclesiastes 3:1 –Author’s note: If you hear a faint harmonious chorus of: “Turn, turn, turn” whenever this Scripture is quoted (via the Back Door Majority) then in the voice of Jeff Foxworthy: ‘Then you might be over 50!’
  • And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive…  Matthew 21:22   (One of the Author’s favorites)

Day six, as I orchestrate comings and goings for the installation of the Frig-thingy; change the whatchamacallit on the Pet Eradicator  and chat with the  Satellite/Phone repair guy swinging precariously from a cherry picker high above my house; I smile and think of that old, lovely hymn: “Learning to Lean, I’m learning to lean; I’m learning to lean on Jesus. Finding more power than I’ve ever seen; I’m learning to lean on Jesus.”

Be Blessed!  The Lightkeeper
