Prayer Changes---Things

FISCAL CLIFF: The Holy Bible tells us: “Been there, Done that.”

Let’s investigate for ourselves in the book of Zechariah (just two books backwards from the beginning of the New Testament as in: Matthew, Malachi, Zechariah… got it?).

Once you arrive at the book of Zechariah, we want to focus for this study on chapter 7, verses 9 through 14 (The end of the chapter).

A little background: When Israel was prosperous, well populated and flowing with commerce through the blessings and grace of the Lord God; they got greedy, selfish and withholding among themselves and other nations. They forgot God and from Whom all their blessings flowed. It became a lot of religious lip service, power grabbing and divisiveness at every level.   ‘Hmm… sound familiar?’

Our Heavenly Father got fed up and empowered the Babylonians and others to ride in and topple the whole system as well as carry off the inhabitants of Israel to become imprisoned (captives) in foreign lands for seventy years. Whew! That’s a long time.

However, at this point they have now been freed after seventy years (70 years) of captivity to re-inhabit Israel. The people want to know if they should keep the same solemn fasts and prayer vigils that they kept while in captivity… or just skip it since they were now back home?

One of the prophets {Zechariah} heard from the Lord and answered the people. Verses 9-14 are what our Lord God replies; reminding them through His prophet, Zechariah, how things used to be and how they got in the predicament in the first place. It is the same truth we can apply to ourselves here in America 2012/2013 as we near the so-called Fiscal Cliff.

“This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner (immigrant) or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’

Now doesn’t that sound like it was plucked straight out of a leading news story today? The criminal justice system in the USA has been corrupted; the hardest hit in our society are the senior citizens; the largest number of people in poverty within the United States are below the age of fifteen years old; the most aggressive laws within the United States are centered around deportation of “foreigner’s, illegal immigrants;” and the highest rise of mass killings without mercy or compassion, but showing an intelligent plan (plot) have all happened within a country that sang about how, “God shed His grace on thee and crowned thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.”

However, the Lord our God continues to speak through His prophet, Zechariah…

11 “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears.12 They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord Almighty was very angry.

Has anyone asked themselves, “What is going on with our crops and food resources?” Our food is not nourishing us but poisoning us with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension; especially in our children; which is our next generation, our future and strength. Why is this all happening?

13 “When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.14 ‘I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.”

Let us pause and reflect on the last line of the 14th verse:
This is how THEY made the pleasant land desolate.

We are each responsible for our country, our rulers, our brothers and sisters whom we have never met… our neighbor.

Pray for those who have the rule over you [Hebrews 13:7].

We ask for your obedience in this, inclusive of All government officials, whether you voted for them or not. Pray without ceasing, calling on the name of the Lord. Pray that our Heavenly Father will have mercy and bless America again. Fast from: Texting, gaming, chatting, sex ting?  and so much TV watching… Fast and pray a solemn prayer of repentance; calling on the name of our Lord Jesus.

…and as always:  Be Blessed! The Lightkeeper

And the Horse Died?

26 10 2012

‘And the horse…what?”

One of my ‘crazy’ Uncle’s used to tell an old silly story that he grew up in a town that was so poor that it was…

“A One-Horse town… and the Horse died.”

Horses have been utilized over time to denote humanity’s wealth, strength, abundance, mobility and ability. Isaiah warns us not to rely on the help and seeming strength of anything other than the Lord. Let’s visit the word and we look forward to hearing what you think about this passage.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help,
    who rely on horses,
who trust in the multitude of their chariots
and in the great strength of their horsemen,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel,
or seek help from the Lord.

Isaiah 31:1 New International Version

At the time of Isaiah’s writing, Egypt was one of the largest and most organized governments known to humanity; therefore the use of their name calls up an image of a high standard to represent man-made governance. Additionally, “horses, chariots and horsemen” are also representative of  well-established military strength.

However, even Egypt had experienced defeats from lesser armies and had sometimes not followed through on pledges to support allied governments during times of war.

Therefore, the Prophet Isaiah is telling us that as the human spirit can be unstable, we need to make the Lord God  our “North Point” on our compass of life. Today, we’d say that the Lord Jesus is our “Default Screen;” so that no matter how many times we are turned on or turned off and even if our systems ‘crash,’ we can know we have a Savior we can trust in and rely upon… The Lord Jesus needs to be our “Start-up as well as our Back-up” plan.

Let us believe along with the Psalmist:

My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.   ~ Psalms 121:2 New International Version

Be Blessed!

CHUTZPAH !

L'Chaim

True Chutzpah

The root of Christianity is Israel. Israel is our lifeline, our example and the history of relationship between finite man and infinite God-our-Father.

There is a Yiddish (Jewish) word colloquially synonymous with having the unique, individualistic qualities of: Nerve, guts, audacity, and spunk. That word is: “Chutzpah!” Quite frankly we need a lot more of it today in our 21st century society. We’re all trying to fit in: Our beady eyes fixed on the little screens; our chubby fingers flying over the acrylic keypad… locked and loaded, but for what?

To be a Believer in the One True God, the Almighty… to be a Christian; it will take ‘Chutzpah!’ In fact, from the Old Testament (the Pentateuch-First five Books of Moses/ first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy); we see our God telling us, explaining to us, warning us repeatedly that we must cling to Him, our creator and not subject ourselves to the schemes of Satan.

The schemes of Satan, his evil spirits (demons) and those misguided humans choosing to be ruled by him, will be under the evil ones’ thumb of dominion and receive his same punishment, eternally.  We’ve been warned.

However, in reading the First Book of Samuel, I recall how grieved the Prophet Samuel became when the children of Israel wanted a King (like everybody else). God warned the people through Samuel that they should be ‘careful what they wished for; they just might get it!’ And “got it,” they did: King Saul, whom God prophesied would put their kids to work for him in menial jobs; send their sons into endless wars; dominate their daughters in subservient positions for his pleasure as maids; place the young boys as pickers in his orchards; take the best of everything for himself and of course for his cronies; as well as take away the one thing they always had going for them as a nation of people: Hope in God and Chutzpah!

Here in our day we too have people who want to be “King” over us. They too have plans to subjugate our children to menial labor. Sound familiar? Our last and only chance to guard our future generations from this tyranny is to have the guts to pay attention; the spunk to stand up and grab onto the God of Promise with both hands; the nerve to look up and pay attention; to have the audacious Chutzpah to be the unique man or woman that our God created us to be. Get prayed-up and then speak up!

Sadly, this kind of thinking goes against the grain of the talking heads and reality show ringmaster’s who tell you what to think and the hired priests that take money to lull you back to sleep, to convince you  in joining them–Blessing ungodly ways just as they do. It is extremely uncomfortable to go against the voice of the crowd; to go against this worlds’ system. Prayer: Almighty Father, may we find eternal truth (and catalytic discomfort) in Your Holy word, to the saving of our soul and our nation.  Amen†  Be Blessed!
