Primary Colors Was Right

20 02 2014

Just watched the movie “Primary Colors” through “On Demand.”   Cathy Bates was fantastic as the ‘all heart, ‘Get er done’ campaign promoter.    At one point her character gets so fed up with the campaign’s hypocrisy, she states:

“I will burn this village in order to save it…”MSDPRCO EC006       Primary Colors

My take away is that she was willing to tell the truth and not blink regarding the possible fall-out of the consequences; even if all that she’d help build was (metaphorically) destroyed in the process.

That kind of passion reminded me that Our Lord and Savior gave his very life for the truth that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us since HE came to bring us that very truth.

At one point, Jesus looked upon Solomon’s (original) Temple in Jerusalem; having over time, disintegrated into a symbol of artificial religion run amok.    Self-promotion had swept the people so far off course with its’ hierarchical rules and fake regulations that few if any could adhere to; let alone the leaders that espoused same. HE commented (prophesied) to His disciples that: “… a day will come when not one stone will stand upon another…”

From the comfort of my leather theater chair in my den, this writer tearfully watched the city of Kiev Ukraine go up in flames on the evening news.    Praying, “Lord help them…  Lord have mercy for rulers that would kill their own people whose only crime is that they are tired of their leaders’ self-promotions for his personal gains.”

Daily, we drive by countless semi-empty Churches where ministers refuse to let go of the egocentric reigns of power and allow the Giftings of the Holy Spirit to flow among the people; meeting spiritual needs of healings both internal and external; preferring in His place, works of the flesh: Raffles, fundraisers, various programs, and awards.

Watching Primary Colors and hearing that line delivered so passionately by the actress, Cathy Bates; I was reminded of something our Lord Jesus said:

Matthew 16:15-19    –   New International Version (N.I.V.)
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah (the Christ), the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[d] loosed in heaven.”

Footnotes:
Matthew 16:18 The Greek word for Peter means rock.
Matthew 16:18 Hades; That is, the realm of the dead
Matthew 16:19 Or will have been
Matthew 16:19 Or will have been

Our focus: Verse 19 “…and the gates of Hades will not overcome it…”

Satan wants the Church to die…   By any means necessary.    If he has to promote people who would run off believer’s in droves through offense, schisms, made-up rules and downright lies…   Well, so be it as far as he’s concerned.    You must understand by now that Satan never has played fair.

However, although our Lord did not say that a grave-like death will not COME to the Church; He DID say that the grave-like death will NOT Overcome the Church.

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is alive and well in the hearts of men and woman all over the world, because of the Holy Spirit.    Church is not owned by any one group; any one race; any one political party; or denomination…    Church is not a religion.      Praise God for that!

No, the authentic Church (the gathering of the Ecclesia or ‘the called-out’ one’s the Believer’s) of the Lord Jesus Christ cannot be held in the grave (a lifeless state of being) any more than its’ founding Father could be held in the grave; for He is Life.

The authentic Church of the Lord Jesus, the Christ, cannot be held and compartmentalized within four walls and upon hard pews once a week for 45-90 minutes; reduced to one fast hymn, one slow hymn and two collections.

We may be meeting in small groups; meeting in homes; meeting in restaurants; found hand holding and sharing prayers during a hasty lunchtime or chatting about the love of Christ in the side aisle of a store, but “We” are alive and we are well!   We are loving one another as we see the Day approaching of HIS return.

The prerequisite for having the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven was belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the son of the Living God.    If you believe that, then let us BIND the works of the ego and LOOSE the love of Christ onto whosoever is willing.  Let us BIND the ravaging spirit of murder and LOOSE the Peace of Christ to our own hearts (first) and plead the same in His name as we remember: The people of Kiev, the people of Syria, the people of the Sudan, the people of Afghanistan, the people of Egypt, the people of Turkey, the people of America, the people if Iraq, the people of Jordan, and the people of Iran.    Let us LOOSE the power of Grace to those who are: Angry; bitter; stressed; homeless; lonely; mourning; those on drugs and hating their addictions; the sick; the elderly and the people who must make a life or death decision at this very moment!   Grace to you… and the Peace of our Lord Jesus; the Prince of Peace.    May this Spirit of the Living God rest upon you; keeping your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.  Amen
Unlocking Dreams

We BIND the spirit of despair and LOOSE the power of Peace and Love to the leaders of all those half-empty Churches who are at the brink and tempted to sell-out for money; tempted to turn away from God’s Word and seek self-fame or those on the verge of giving up in hopelessness.

“We” say to you: Choose Life, choose Love, choose Peace…   Choose Jesus.

If you must tear up your five-year plan; your too-good-to-be-true contract; or perhaps finally confront that Simon-the-Sorcerer-manipulating member who holds out huge “Donations” in order to get their way, and if you must rip up your people-pleasing sermon that shades the Word of God to no effect— If you must destroy all of this; only to repent and start anew…    So be it!

Repentance

We must be willing to effectively “…burn this village in order to save it!”   Amen.

Be Blessed!    The Light Keeper

Believers Who Have Died

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of humanity, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

And so, as we see the time approaching of the coming of our Lord, we continue our labor of love in the earth with “Pastor Bill” as our very good example.

Be Blessed!

I S-cream, You S-cream, We All S-cream…Let’s Stop Screaming

21 09 2012
We All Scream for Ice Cream

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

All over the world, there are many good ideas and opinions. There are many good ideas that seemed like good ideas at the time, but they just didn’t work out; like slavery in the United States. To the slave industrial market of the 17th century,  it didn’t seem like a bad idea… until it wasn’t. Slaves sang:

O Freedom, O freedom, O freedom over me… And before I’ll be a slave, I’ll be buried in my grave and go home to my Lord and be free.” Many made good on that promise.

Perhaps today, the American Slave would be depicted in the news as ‘ungrateful Jihaddists.’ Also today, the ‘Children of Israel‘ making their ‘Exodus’ would have been considered ‘illegal aliens’ in the “Promised Land” as many still hold that same opinion today. Selah (meaning to pause and reflect)

There is a lot of chatter out in the world today Beloveds’ and we have to understand our presence in the world as Christians. We must always make our first consideration: What is written? What does the word of God have to say on this subject or that situation?

In several of the Gospels, we see a record of our Lord Jesus being tempted in the wilderness by Satan himself. Note that Jesus’ temptation came on the heels of His being tired, hungry and isolated from family and friends. Isn’t that when we all seem to be at our most vulnerable? Additionally, this temptation came at the decision point of a great undertaking for Father-God… Jesus’ assignment and agreement to be, The Christ… to take away and upon Himself,  the sins of all human beings on earth; in fact, the sin (downfall) of all creation.

In the Book of Luke, chapter 4:1-12, we see that Jesus spoke to the Arch Angel, Satan-himself; to tell him three times [Note: Holy Trinity]; precisely and concisely that: “…It is written…”

Vs. 4- “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”

Vs. 8- “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.”

Vs. 12- “You shall not tempt the Lord your God.”

As mentioned, there is a lot of chatter out in the world today, but some things are truths that do not change (if you are indeed a Christian).

  • We pray for the peace of Jerusalem
  • We extend kindness and charity to everyone we encounter; considering that we would have them do the same on our behalf.
  • We raise up generations after us to respect and honor the word of God and their fellow human beings, created in the very image of God.

POP QUIZ: You’ve just been mugged, beaten and left semi-conscious on the curb without an iPhone. Whom would you rather have stroll around the corner to discover you: The “good” Samaritan that without hesitation, tends to you immediately with care and concern or the “Rich young ruler” {all show and no dough…. all hat and no cattle…} who dots his ‘i’ and crosses his ‘t’ to perfection?

We all have opinions, however, the word of God comes first for Believer’s. Let’s stop screaming.

Be Blessed!

CHEERS !

24 06 2012

Be of Good Cheer

Suppose along the way on our journey back to God; a lot of people begin to stop believing in God?

Suppose our journey has been filled with an abundance of: “One-too-many’s?” Perhaps there have been ‘one-too-many’ rude so-called religious-folk; perhaps one-too-many dysfunctional family situations; one-too-many ways to be taken for granted; or betrayed, excluded; criticized; polarized and simply unloved? Then what?

As a Biblical Counselor for a number of  years now, I have yet to have ‘seen-it-all’; especially since I haven’t met someone like the madman of Gadara (“My name is Legion, for we are manyMark 5:1-20)–not someone you would look forward to meeting  randomly, and it’s not very likely that he’d make an appointment with us. [Please know I’m being facetious here]

True, our counseling hasn’t come across such a walking-wounded child of God; however, I do know a very dear young woman who has experienced much of the above list of un-love for much of her life: She drinks.

Another dear person who has come into our ministry with a similar story of having seldom felt loved: He is angry and emotionally cloistered.

Some people shop; some eat; some have sexual marathons; some decide to perpetrate the same unloving behaviors onto others; thereby perpetuating the cycle of evil.

As we can see, it all gets messy and goes downhill rather quickly; however, most people in the clutches of this cycle of unloving, accept the self-inflicting wounds as relief.

Revisit Mark 5:1-20 and note that some very twenty-first century psychosis are being demonstrated: Cutting; terrorizing; bullying; vehement anger, etc. What’s the remedy? What is the antidote, the cure? We invite you to come have a drink.

Drink deeply, ever so deeply, again and again of the word of God. Let’s focus upon the words of our Savior and Friend, our Lord Jesus, the Christ [meaning: anointed One; (and) His anointing].

In fact, from now on, may we humbly suggest that every time you see the title, “Christ”, that you think: Anointed One (and) His anointing. In regular terms, it’s like saying: “The All-Powerful/All-Able One and His All-Powerful potential toward you and me.” Jesus’ antidote for the evils of this world-system is highlighted in John 16:33b (NKJV) “…Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

However, understand that the next time you hear this Scripture quoted; it is a concluding portion of a much larger statement. This is a statement delivered (in fact) to Believer’s and not to unbeliever’s, who have a whole ‘other’ issue; just as a High School Senior has whole ‘other’ issues differing from a drop-out.

So then, Jesus’ concluding statement: “..Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world,” is like the dessert within a full-course meal. However, the main course precedes dessert, as when He said:  33  “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Note: “In the world you will have tribulation…” (i.e., sorrow, trials, challenges, persecutions and/or grief). Primary to Jesus’ statement is His open, and non-expiring invitation and statement of fact: “…in Me you may have peace.” The qualifier  ‘may’ shows that we have a choice, a decision; so indeed this is part of an invitation and not a dictation.

We shine the Light on this fact: We can choose Jesus and turn our back on the un-loving sorrows, trials, persecutions, and challenges of this world-system. We can rest in the knowledge that Jesus knows all about it (first-hand); we are not alone in the world; we are not abandoned, orphaned or without hope.

So too, we can choose to realize, count upon; lean into and rest ourselves in knowing that even the crass chaos of our life, here on planet earth has not escaped the nail-scarred hands of our Lord and Savior; The Christ.

BUT: We’ve got to stop self-managing and simply submit ourselves to Him; give ‘it‘ to Him. That is easier said then done, right? Perhaps things are only as hard as we make them? Please review the fact that the first thing ‘Legion’ does in Mark 5, verse 6: “When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped Him.”

Exercise: For 7 days, stop recalling “the problem” and focus upon the solution. Jesus is the solution for every problem. See Him in your heart through the word of God, right there in your Holy Bible. Run to Him in your heart; fall upon your knee’s literally and spiritually… worship Him.

This is our first step as Believer’s [not denominationalism, not religious, but believer’s] in the One true, Triune God; the “I AM”; Who is our answer to all of life’s many questions; which  are always found, “under-the-Son,” in Christ.

Homework~For a good time, read: John 16 (all) and Mark 5 (all) then please share with us how the exercise suggested above has made a difference in your life.

Be Blessed!

The Dove and The Holy Spirit

16 06 2012
Holy Spirit Dove

The Holy Spirit Dove

Ever wonder why the Holy Spirit is always symbolized as a Dove? Here are some interesting points to ponder:

  • A dove has 9 main feathers on each wing; powering its’ flight; keeping it lifted.
  • It is noted in Scripture that there are 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 12:7-10) and 9 Fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23)… ‘9 for each wing.’ The Gifts and Fruit keep us lifted for our Godly journey.
  • There are 5 main feathers of a doves tail.
  • The doves tail feathers are like the steering rudder of an airplane; assisting in guiding the dove in flight.
  •  The 5 main feathers are a perfect picture of the 5-Fold Ministry of the Church, listed in Ephesians 4:11-12. They are: Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Teacher and Evangelist.
  • The dove is unique from other birds in that instead of its wings pointing downward (toward its tail); the wings curl upward toward its head.
  • The Holy Spirit does not speak of Himself, but points believers to Christ; the Head of the Church.

*Special thanks to Ministers Perry Stone and Vance Havner for these wonderful insights.

Prayer: Father-God your beautiful creations, like the dove, point us to your greater glory and truth. May we always look only to you just as all creation glorifies Your Holy name. Amen

Objects In Mirror Are Closer…

28 05 2012
Uh Oh!

Closer Than It Appears

If the above picture pretty much captures how life’s challenges are ‘bearing’ down on you (pardon the pun) then you’re not alone!

In fact, that’s what I want to share with you today: You truly ARE never alone. Our creator is ever-present and never-changing. Our creator; Heavenly Father; our Lord is not distant. To the contrary, He is only a prayer away.

God never changes… that’s the good news…. however, our perception of Him changes… that should be ‘the better’ news. If the Lord seems more distant than when you last checked; perhaps you’re not giving Him enough of your time and attention? Maybe the Grizzly in the mirror is taking up more space than he deserves? After all; he’s only an image in the rear-view mirror.

Let’s spend more “Selah” time (Selah=Pause and reflect) with our Heavenly Father who never changes His mind about loving YOU.

Some good Bible passages that can help you press the gas pedal a little harder in order to make that bear look a whole lot smaller:

Malachi 3:6

Philippians 2:12-16

Until next time: Be Blessed!

PS: Pop Quiz, “How has the Lord helped you to make your Grizzly small?”

Along the Way

18 03 2012
"The Temptation of Christ

"The Temptation of Christ" by Liturgical artist, painter Eric Armusik http://www.ericarmusik.com

(Disciple) Greek- “Learner” Unger’s also adds, “…one who professes to have learned certain principles from another and maintains them on that other’s authority.”

Discipleship is what we do “Along the Way” as we live our life in Christ. We don’t get it perfect every day (personally, nowhere near perfect), but it’s what we strive toward by following the One who is perfect.

In Matthew chapter four, focusing on verses 1-4 where Jesus is tempted by Satan. Let’s take a look at what happens:

1.     Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

2.     After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

3.     The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these  stones to become bread.”

4.     Jesus answered, “It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

That got me to thinking about accomplishing by having clear: Direction; goal(s); vision and focus. To go through life without these attributes, we (absolutely) will be…

Tempted by Satan to be:

  • Distracted from our goal.
  • Discouraged about our goal.
  • Doubt our ability to achieve our goal.
  • Doubt God’s will and love for our lives.
  • Negative regarding the reality of God’s word about His presence; His provision and His peace for our lives, our calling and our tasks in the earth.

Out there in the wilderness, Jesus showed us the way for our lives today. Jesus was tempted just like we are today to ‘throw in the towel,’ blame our Mother/Father/Others; blame the circumstances of our birth; our past and our present; get stressed and pick up the double-fudge ice cream (okay, maybe that’s T.M.I.), but you get my drift.

In today’s society, mega-bucks are made by selling us on the lie that we should ‘throw in the towel,’ blame Mom and Dad, blame the fact that we are tall, short, skinny, fat, black, white, underprivileged, too rich, or too poor. In fact, extreme time and money is spent on marketing campaigns targeting us all to ‘do’ something about it by buying their products.

Additionally, there are folks keeping secrets in the Church pews. Whenever the Minister teaches on the temptation of Christ from the book of Matthew; the secret-thinking says:  “Yeah, that’s fine for Jesus, but He’s the Son of God; I’m just me.”

We have forgotten that Jesus’ example is for us to imitate. How do we combat the temptations of Satan, the ‘Prince of the Power-of-the-Air’ himself; when he was up against Jesus: The carpenter’s kid, born out-of-wedlock, working-class, uneducated, from a small, poor township; a young guy who was out there in the wilderness with (seemingly) no one to help Him, but all of heaven watching?  That was a big [hold your breath and lean forward] moment if ever there was one, but Jesus quoted the word of God at each and every instance of Satan’s temptation. The main lesson is that the word of God is our only winning defense against the temptations of Satan-then, now and forever.

That’s it; just the word of God-nothing else. That seems way too easy doesn’t it? However, Jesus also said regarding our being His disciple (a disciplined follower); which we are if we are Christians: “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”Matthew 11:30. Our ‘yoke’ then is the service required and our ‘burden’ is to fulfill that requirement in order to live abundantly in the earth: Take Him at His word; believe His word; apply His word to our life and speak His word about our life. That’s all folks!

However, this all calls for a basic decision; we must decide to: Hear that word, agree with that word; live that word; behave that word and speak that word in relation to our own lives and where we stand today. In fact Joshua said it best:  “…As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15b

To bring this out further, we will be taking a look at the book of James chapter one, verse eight (8); where James declares: “A double-minded man (person) is unstable in all his ways.”

Until next time: Be Blessed! The Lightkeeper

CAPTURING THOUGHTS

9 03 2012
Capturing Every Thought

Capturing Every Thought

“Demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  II Cor. 10:5 NIV

So okay… Most of us admit we fall down a lot when it comes to  actually applying the above referenced Scripture, right?  What’s that? Did I see some raised eyebrows back there among you? Well, here’s another question: How well have the last 70 days been since making that New Year’s Resolution? How is Lent going? Umhmm, thought so (me too).

Be sure to read the entirety of the second letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to the Church at Corinth. His letter taught us about putting on the armour of God. Verse 5 describes what that armour empowers us to “DO” if we use it. Keep in mind that the armour isn’t againstfolks out there,” but it is to protect the Believer (us) from satan getting his hooks into us: body, soul and spirit.

We can be just like Garfield’s friend, Little Odie – out there bouncing-back and going after his goal. As Believer’s in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have the advantage of being able to always seek Him through His Word so that we can train ourselves to: Think like God thinks; speak like God speaks, and do what God does.

Alright, I could hear you cheering until you got to that last one: Do what God does.” We know it’s true, but we (gulp) agree and then rarely take Him at His word; like when He said:

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12 NIV

Just a small side note: Notice Jesus says “anyone?” That pretty much includes YOU and me; not just Apostles or ancient folks in ancient times. Similarly, Jesus said, ‘whoever’ or ‘whosoever’ ~ depending on your Bible translation. It’s an all-inclusive pronoun. However, let’s also note that it is dependent upon some action on our part… Faith.

Sometimes it can feel lonely as we walk this ‘narrow way’, but Jesus is with us every step of the way.  Know this too, that somewhere out there I’m jumping like Odie, after my own life-butterflies… Capturing thoughts and imaginations and every high thing that would (try) to exalt itself in my mind and heart against the knowledge ~ against what is sure enough known to be true ~ in the Word of God.

Let’s say it together… Let’s get in one of those holy huddles like they do during the NFL Championship games… Let’s all put our hearts and hands together saying:

“… I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME !”                     Phil. 4:13 NIV

Now let’s get out there with our own butterfly nets and start capturing those negative thoughts, imaginations and everything the enemy of our soul throws our way in his desire to make the Word of God a lie in order to defeat our faith.

TN Lighthouse Ministries is praying for you, and  there are folks connected with this Ministry from all over the world praying for you… India, Greece, Japan, El Salvador, all over the United States of America, Canada, Africa, Brazil… the list goes on and on…

Let us lift each other in prayer as we lift up the name of the only One who died for us and lives forever; making intercession for us all: JESUS, our Lord and Savior.

To Him be Glory forever~ Amen!       Be Blessed, The Lightkeeper

HE is Lord

1 02 2012

IN UNITY

HE is Lord,

HE is Lord,

HE has risen from the dead,

And HE is Lord,

Every knee shall bow,

Every tongue confess,

That Jesus Christ is Lord.

What a wonderful, moving hymn. While singing this hymn I am often moved to tears imagining “that day” when Jesus returns and all nations of the earth will fall to their knee’s declaring His Lordship. Won’t that be awesome?

Each of us has the opportunity to make that confession for ourselves, now, today. If you have already done that, but feel a distance from when you first asked Jesus to come into your heart; perhaps a time of refreshing is what you need.

I know that is what I needed just this past week. The services that I usually participate in are very lively events regarding the music, the preaching and even the prayers are very vocal. However, I was invited to worship with a new acquaintance at his church. It was very peaceful, quiet, and not very long in service length. It was in fact, quite refreshing.

Just as I wouldn’t order the same thing on a menu at every restaurant I attended; similarly, I wouldn’t want this kind of quiet, brevity on a regular basis either. However, for where my heart was at that time; overcoming a busy schedule and knowing I needed some shut-eye at some point in the day; this was a Sabbath rest that “filled the bill” for me.

Psalm 133:1 says: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!”… See how good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity

How wonderful to be united with brothers and sisters from divergent backgrounds. The one thing we all had in common was our recognition and declaration that: “HE is Lord.”

Isn’t that true for us all? Find your place and find His grace for your life today. Be Blessed
