Bless The Lord

3 08 2012

David knew how to bless the Lord with praise and worship. Maybe that is why God elevated him to be King over Israel after the failings of his predesessor, Saul.

You see, it is praise that elevates us. When we praise God with all our heart, all of our soul and with all of our might…We are lifted into a new place within ourselves; within our spirit (or inner being) and we get a glimpse of the glory of the Lord. It is wonderful and marvelous and filled with the light of His presence.

How do I know? Yes, I have been there many, many times and you can get there too. Praise and worship gets you there, as does thanksgiving.

David gave us a big hint about the GPS coordinates for being in the presence of our God when he tells us in Psalm 100:4

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. KJV

I bear witness that you can do this in the privacy of your rec room or in the midst of the congregation of like-Believer’s…

One thing is for sure… If you don’t enter His gates with sincere thanksgiving; you certainly won’t come into His courts… with praise or anything else for that matter. Umhmm… It’s true! That’s why some of you are so bored at Church and some of you stand around during the  “Praise and Worship” time of service shifting from foot-to-foot; or watching someone else have a moment of joy-in-the-Lord while you think they’re stupid or weird or ‘showing off.’

That is just because you are leaving your full focus out of the service and not focusing upon the ONE you’ve come to worship. [duh!]

Ever have a store clerk not give you his/her full attention while waiting upon you? Annoying isn’t it? Ever receive some honor at work or school and some folks in the audience seem totally uninterested in the program or proceedings (sighing, looking at their watch or disconnectedly chattering away with a seatmate)… How rude?

Well, approaching the King of Kings and Lord of Lords commands our full presence, attention, worship,  admiration and consideration. Perhaps if we considered Who He Is and what He has done for us and that He is alive… watching and loving us each and every day we draw breath: In fact, if not for Him we could not draw our next heartbeat nor our next breath. Those beats are a rhythmn and on time… HE IS the very creator of time!

God Bless you, Empowered/Ken Reynolds-singing video below:

Bless the Lord O my soul and all that is within me bless His Holy Name!

Be Blessed!

We Mourn, We Pray and

We Remember: Colorado

My Dear-One became outraged today over the tragic events of the senseless shootings and deaths in Colorado. His anger was huge and directed at the multi-billion-dollar gun lobby that controls our Congress (left/right and center); making it easy for a disturbed individual to buy sophisticated, automatic weaponry.

His anger burned hot for the terrible loss of human life: Women and children; men and boys. His anger was for the shattered wounded. His anger was for what he felt as his own personal helplessness in the face of such a vile and evil act that is occurring much too often in the land that he has loved and defended from his youth as a United States Marine Corporal of the Reconnaissance Division-Korea.

Listening patiently, and in total agreement with his outrage, I began to think of the Lord Jesus: You see, He was born into a corrupt society dominated by the Roman Empire and a jaded, and  compromised Mosaic culture .

In fact, prior to Jesus’ arrival, there had been no other human government that rivaled Rome and it’s mass organization, military might and totalitarian colonization of the ‘then’ known world; with the exception of Egypt’s Pharaonic rule; which paled in comparison to the Roman Empire.

Jesus’ three and half-year ministry punctuated the apex of Romes’ world domination. Our Lords’ twelve disciples were angry and wanted Jesus to take over Rome; end their domination and put Israel back into its’ rightful  power. In fact, we see Judas Iscariot begin to emotionally withdraw from Jesus, because He won’t overthrow Roman government in Judea (for starters); then finally, he decides to simply turn Jesus over to the High Priests for thirty  pieces of silver; since it is clear that a major civil war was not in the Jesus’ plans.

Murder, bribes, injustice, immorality, the cheapening of human life and cruelty were so common place; few rose up to challenge the status quo. All this happened in the presence of our Lord and Savior. What did He want us to know and what shall we do about these things:

12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.                        I Peter4:12-13

The Prophet Isaiah [53:3] described the Lord Jesus approximately four hundred years before He was born in Bethlehem as  “…A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief…”

Many people today in our nation are hurting over this great tragedy in Colorado. Many people are angry and want to “DO” something and you can:  Please look to the Lord Jesus, our Comforter, our Strength; our cool water in a dry and weary land. Only He can give you:  “… the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

In 2 Chronicles 12:15, the Prophet of that day answers the people with the word of God  after a horrific and merciless battle with many dead and wounded; upon hearing of more warriors approaching, saying: 15 …Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

In closing, we join our prayers for peace and comfort with those who mourn and we turn our face to the One who hears and heals. Tennessee Lighthouse Ministries invites you to listen to the anointed voice of our Sister in Christ    singing The Battle Is Not Your…It’s the Lord’s Be Blessed!  Ms. Yolanda Adams

New Car

Buy One Get One Free???

Ever been to a social gathering where there were all kinds of sweets, treats, soft drinks and juices, but no cold water to drink? Yeah, bummer. Then when you ask the host/hostess of this shindig for a glass of water; they look at you with a bit of irritation, march off and bring back this little, rinky-dink cup of warm tap water. Fabulous (not).

Ever find yourself in the store or online and realize that you’ve been filling up your shopping cart with a bunch of needless nonsense? Yup.

Doctor Lightkeeper says that’s a sure sign of needing a tune-up: Pull out your Bible, pray and ask the Holy Spirit what He would have you to know. In no time at all, you will come across a passage of Scripture to fill your cup and quench your thirst (your real thirst). Just like a vehicle; if the engine is running a bit rough, it may be ‘one quart low’ of oil, or the tires need to be inflated; and don’t forget to put some water in the radiator or the car’s running temperature will get all out of whack  and overheat. {out of whack= A highly technical term for stalled}

Let’s see what the word of God has to say about this:

Isaiah 55:1a – “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters…” The Prophet Isaiah exclaimed and declared to us that we can be satisfied by coming to Jesus, the Messiah.

In the Gospel of John 7:37, Jesus declares of Himself: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”

Isaiah 55 continues: Vs. 1b “…and he that has no money, come, buy and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Vs.2– “Why do you spend money for what is not bread? And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.” NKJV

Has anyone considered that the economic collapse of 2007-2008-2009 in America was God doing us a favor and stopping our over-indulgent, extravagant ways as a nation? (Hey, put that rock down!) Perhaps as a nation we needed a ‘tune-up’? Folks are now buying mostly what they need. There is an entire scale-down, minimalist movement throughout our land. People are reconsidering how they authentically want to spend their life and spend their time.

Resources in our world today are not so much ‘scarce’ as they are polarized and in need of redistribution [floods are causing entire communities to move, while there are many dying of thirst elsewhere, etc.].

It seems that either we voluntarily get our house-in-order or the Lord God steps in to awaken us to the results of our many bad choices.

Things come and things go; it is the love of God that lasts forever. Think: What matters most within a moment of time in our lives? It is probably not something you could buy.

What may be missing from your online or in-store shopping cart is an authentic, heart-to-heart relationship. Start today by asking Jesus to come into your heart, wash it clean, making it shiny and new.  Be Blessed!

When you can’t get love, you get alibi’s” Per Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald and the sizzling saxaphone of Dave Coz performing “Heart to Heart”

LBGT No Turning Back

Hiding Slaves 1800's

The Root Cellar

Hymn Lyrics: “I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Him; I have decided to follow Jesus: No turning back, no turning back. The Cross before me; the world behind me; the Cross before me; the world behind me… No turning back; no turning back.” By, S. Sundar Singh  For the song history and a great story visit:

Have we noticed that there has been a lot of conversation nationally regarding the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community? The Lightkeeper is old enough to remember when Civil Rights for the “Negro” were the focus of national conversation; even appearing as a much-discussed topic within our small interracial community of circa 1960’s New Jersey. To coin a phrase from the President that the Lightkeeper first recognized (At 8 years old):

Let me say this, about that…” {John F. Kennedy}

As for me and my household: We will love. We will not hide behind the word of God to use His word as a weapon or as an excuse NOT to love; which in itself makes the word of God into a lie, in as much that God (Himself) is love.

Another interesting point is what God’s word has to say about who is and who is not going to inherit eternal life with Him: Revelation 21: 1-8 NIV; all Bible references Link-back to

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a](A) for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,(B) and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City,(C) the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,(D) prepared as a bride(E) beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.(F) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.(G) 4‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.(H) There will be no more death’[b](I) or mourning or crying or pain,(J) for the old order of things has passed away.”(K)5 He who was seated on the throne (L) said, “I am making everything new!”(M) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”(N)6 He said to me: “It is done. (O) I am the Alpha and the Omega,(P) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost(Q) from the spring of the water of life.(R) 7Those who are victorious(S) will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.(T) 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars(U)—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.(V) This is the second death.”(W)

Let’s direct our attention to verse 8~”But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars – they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

There are more references and warnings against being “fearful” or “cowardly” in the Bible than about (the practice of) homosexuality. Additionally, there are more references and warnings against unbelieving (faithlessness, little faith, doubt), idolatry, liars and lust (whoremongers) than homosexuality too.

What do we know for sure? Lord God, JVH, made all humans. Satan hates all humans. Jesus commanded us to love one another, explicitly. HE did not command us to judge one another; since only HE is the righteous judge in consideration of what He went through on the Cross; coming to earth as a volunteer to die in our place and receive the (just) punishment for us all: Straight or Gay; all enslaved by the sin of this World System (‘the old order’ of things; ref. Rev. 21:4 NIV).

We are to be busily working out our own salvation with reverential fear before the all-seeing eyes of our Creator; with Jesus as our attorney-High Priest and staunchest advocate; pleading forever on our behalf as we look only to Him based upon His free invitation… No charge… Pro Bono… Free, because He paid it all on the Cross at Calvary.

Since He paid it all for me and for you on Calvary; we can AFFORD to be gracious to all we encounter along the way toward eternal life. We can AFFORD to love and we can dip up more love from Jesus’ limitless well whenever we are dry and thirsty from the dust storms of this world.

If we could trace the history of every human being from their present state or frame of mind to when/how that outlook was formed in them; we will surely find somewhere along the way; a lack of love in some form or another. How this is played out in one’s life is as unique and numerous as snowflakes in a blizzard. Example: One father is abusive to his son and his son becomes Mozart; another father is abusive to his son and he becomes Jeffrey Dahmer.

Those who are cowards/fearful; those who don’t believe/trust (anything or anyone) and all these ways of ‘being’ in the earth has produced: The murderer; the whoremonger; the thief; the liar; the sexual immoral of all kinds; the idol worshipper; those who practice (rely on) magic arts; and those who are vile.

Jesus is wisdom and love personified. So what was the remedy from the Perfected One? “…Love ye one another …and again I say, love ye one another” John 13:35.  Also “Love God and love your neighbor (fellow-human) as yourself” Matthew 22:36. That is a tall order. That will take a lifetime to fulfill. That keeps us looking at Jesus and then looking at ourselves; then looking at Jesus and then checking back with ourselves… You get the idea.

In the meantime, when I come across you (fellow-human) in the streets or within the workplace or anywhere in the earth; I have one thing and one thing only to do regarding you: Love you as I love myself. That’s it! That’s all folks! Is that too simplistic? Well, Jesus said to “Take my yoke… it’s easy…”

Matthew 11: 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” NKJV

Getting back to the LBGT community: Thank God we don’t have to hide LBGT folks in the root cellar like the runaway slaves. Perhaps this post will be the TN Lighthouse ‘root cellar’ moment. Just like some white and Native American people of the 1800’s who hid the black slaves; risking their lives and reputations: They risked all to love.

As a minister of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ; I have decided to follow Jesus. I will risk to love. I lay down all pretenses and will not shirk or skirt the issue. I will love my homosexual brother and sister. That is the last thing my Master, the Lord Jesus, the Christ told me to do: “Love my neighbor, [my fellow human being] as I love myself.”

No turning back, no turning back.   Be Blessed!

Whatever HE Tells You To Do

28 02 2012

Wedding at Cana

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” John 2:5

As most mother’s of adult son’s begin to understand; at some point in time there is a power exchange. No longer is he your ‘little boy’ but to the contrary, he is now ‘your son.’ The difference is in our deference to the young man that now stands before us.

Once upon a time we as mother’s thought nothing about walking up to our son to tuck in his shirt; taking a tissue to wipe his nose; using our hand to smooth down his hair; fussing over a crumpled collar or balls of lint on his sweater. With no thought at all our hands seemed to fly across our son’s of their own accord; straightening, folding, smoothing and picking indescriminately.

I’ll never forget that one day when I drove my (then) thirteen year old daughter and sixteen year old son to the shopping center for the annual back-to-school shopping trip. We visited a men’s clothing store and I immediately engaged the salesman, telling him what size my son wore in slacks; when suddenly a shadow loomed large at my shoulder and a full rich male voice said, “Mom, it’s okay, I’ve got this.” Looking up, I suddenly seemed to see him for the very first time. It was my son, tall and handsome and very much a young man.

The salesman seemed to recognize that we were all in the throws of a transition of some sort and not just between pleat-front or five-pocket. The salesman gave me a test question to see if I’d be giving ground or not, by asking, “Will he be trying these on or…?” The question hung in the air between the three of us. I answered, “Whatever he wants to do…” When I retreated to join my daughter in the courtesy chairs, the salesman began to give his full (adult) professional attention to his customer: my son.

I have heard many ministers preach that Jesus’ Mother, Mary did not recognize the Lord as the Son of God, but I beg to differ in that point based upon what she told those servants during the wedding at Cana; the Lord’s launching.

You see, at that wedding, Mother-Mary demonstrated that she had already experienced her transitional moment and was speaking from her knowledge of and her trust in her Son; her fully capable and qualified Son. Surely a transition had taken place at some point in our her outlook regarding her son.

That transition, from man-child to adult male is beautiful and awesome to behold; do not fight against it, but embrace it. You’ll know when you have fully embraced and celebrated that manhood; when you begin to tell others to take note and pay the respect that is due this new amazing individual who is a part of you, but now stands apart from you, on his own.

I have embraced Mother-Mary’s words for my own relationship with her Son, my Lord and Savior. Mother-Mary’s words still ring as true today as they did to those perplexed servants in that kitchen during the wedding. I believe they heard her  calmly and confidently say: “Whatever He tells you to do… Do it.”

O yes, as we left that store, my son seemed to walk a little taller, shoulders a bit wider, stride a bit longer as he held that shopping bag with the clothing he had determined to wear, purchased with the summer money he had earned.

That was exactly twenty years ago this coming August and I think I’m still beaming over that launch day and many other transitional days he has brought to me since as graduate, soldier, husband and father. I believe Mother-Mary beamed that day too,  as only a Mom could.

The God Who Heals Me

6 02 2012

Jesus Heals

Just  talked to a Dear-one who is “going through it;” I mean the ‘hit-youwith-the-Kitchen-Sink’ kind of ‘going through it.’

In the scheme of things, a broken bone would be a cleaner type of hurt: This is emotional. Prayer Warriors Unite, so that this Child of God does not become prime rib on Satan’s menu. My view on this subject was stated back in February. Here is a replay:

So often I counsel Believer’s that ask for prayer regarding one ailment or another. As I listen, I am concerned about the lengthy and detailed descriptions of their ailments and what the doctor had to say. Sometimes, I find that I must interrupt in order to get a “prayer in edgewise.”

What if we were just as familiar with what the Word of God said as we are with what the Pharmacist, the Internist or the Specialist had to say? Please don’t misunderstand. I realize the all-consuming nature of sickness. As a teenager I watched my own dear Mother succumb to the fierce ravages of Chronic Leukemia; while she stayed faithful to the Lord right up until her passing at only forty-six years of age.

In addition to the Lord’s call upon my life to Ministry; I also recall the desperate feelings of wanting to “DO” something to stop Mom’s pain; stop the wasting away of her body, strength and life. From that time until this, I have searched out the Scriptures and looked to the Lord for His healing. Our family was part of a denomination which taught that miracles and healings were ‘passed away’… Gone with the last Apostle. We were to simply look forward to ‘making heaven our home–in the sweet by-and-by.’ But I had read in the Bible that: “…heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not pass away.”

Whom shall we believe? I’ll tell you whom I believe:  Our God is a ‘consuming fire [Hebrews 12:28-29]; mighty in battle [Psalm 24:8]; has overcome the enemy; the last enemy to be defeated is only Death itself; which will flee at His coming. You see, our God is Spirit and those that would worship Him, must worship Him in spirit (our own) and in truth (only His word is truth). John 4:24

So Beloved, get your Bibles out and open them. Read and consume; feast upon the Living Word. It is only through His word and the gift of His Holy Spirit (the very Spirit of Truth) that we have any chance; any chance whatsoever against the ancient enemy of our souls; whether it be physical, mental, emotional or relational in this world-system.

Jesus told us to “Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.” John 16:33   Additionally, let’s start by cracking open our Bible for ourselves in order to find out what are some of the many, many benefits we can stand solidly upon for our wholeness. Let us concentrate ourselves fully to “These things” and place all others in their proper place… as we: Take the medicine prescribed; continue our treatments; and all other prescribed and recommended therapies. Let’s be proactive as we “fight the GOOD fight of faith.”

Focus readings:

  • John 17:12-19 (Whole Chapter) Jesus prays for us all to know that God’s Word is truth.
  • Exodus 15:26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” Exodus 15:25-27 (in Context) Exodus 15 (Whole Chapter)
  • Psalm 103:3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Psalm 103:2-4 (in Context) Psalm 103 (Whole Chapter)
  • Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:2-4 (in Context) Psalm 147 (Whole Chapter)

Until next time… Be Blessed!

Guarding Your Way

17 01 2012

Truth in Advertising

While folding laundry I decided to watch a TV show. I like mystery or suspense, like the old “It Takes a Thief” series with Robert Wagoner.

I came across a movie I had heard of and settled in to watch when I got a little “unction” from the Holy Spirit to ‘read’ the details of the movie plot. It was about: murder, hostage-taking, violence and theft by drug lords.

I realized that over 16 years ago, the Lord had heard my cry and delivered  me from bondage of violence  by those kinds of people and their evil acts. Instead, He has given me a heart to proclaim His ‘good news’ so others can be delivered by Him (perpetrators as well as victims).

So, why would I decide to be ‘bound’ for 90 minutes watching depictions of this kind of evil in high definition? It is my responsibility to guard as precious and sacred, my freedom in Christ. So, I turned off the TV and cleaned out the kitty litter box!

Proverbs 16:17 “The highway of the upright turns aside from evil; he who guards his way preserves his life.”       Be Blessed

Making My List, Checking It Twice

17 12 2011

Checking His List

Yes, it’s that time of the year! It’s time to give and receive gifts. The biggest view to our heart is who will be left off of our gift/card-giving list, more than whose on the list. You see, God knows the (true) intentions of our heart. HE knows the very number of the hairs on our head (or the lack thereof). Luke 12:7 and Matthew 10:30

Are we naughty or nice? Are we genuine or superficial and self-serving in our gift-giving? Don’t fear the one who could exclude you from their list, but “fear Him who has the power to send your soul to hell.” Luke 12:5 and Matthew 10:28

One part of the Saint Nicholas story that is all but forgotten today is the fact, Saint Nick:

  • Gifted anonymously.
  • Gifted the least of these among us: Children, orphans, widows, the poor, the sick and the forgotten elderly.
  • Gifted those who could not gift him in return: No strings attached.
Check your list again; whose not there? There was a person who wanted to buy his way into the power of Christ and offered money instead of a repentant heart. The Apostle Peter replied, “Your money perishes with you…” Acts 8:20

The best gift: Give the gift of a humble and repentant heart to the One we celebrate. Jesus came and gave us the gift of eternal life by paying with His own life. Receive His gift today.  Prayer: Lord Jesus; forgive my sins, come into my heart and be Lord of my life.” Amen†  Be Blessed!

8 12 2011

Isn’t it great that the play “GodSpell” is back on Broadway? We, of a certain age realize that so much beautiful music came from that play; it is now in the fabric of our American Society. One of the most famous songs (there are many) is, “Day By Day.” Many of you saw the original play, or performed parts from GodSpell in High School, College or community theatre; along with the play, “Hair!

However, now you’re talking about my ‘coming of age’ decade and the background of unrest against all things ‘establishment.’ We wanted to be authentic; to celebrate our uniqueness and radically experience brotherly love. We fluffed out our hair, wore tri-colored socks, love beads and headbands… we were young, wild and free!

Many in my youthful tribe loved Jesus, but we pushed against the stuffy bureaucracy of mindless, denominational dogma, the senseless (Vietnam) war, the disgusting evils of greed and racism (and still do). Then came the 1980’s and we all got jobs. We combed our hair; donned our ‘interview suits’; stuffed our passion in our pockets along with our credit cards… Thus, here we are today: Gutted! But wait… Do I hear the first strains of a song?

The prelude to “Day By Day,” is a haunting little melody: “Prepare the way of the Lord… Prepare the way of the Lord.” Hey, it’s a sign! The next time I heard the lyrics to “Day By Day,” Ben Stiller was doing a comically, convoluted prayer in the presence of his fiancée’s parents in “Meet the Parents”: ‘Day by day, day by day… O dear Lord these things I pray… To see thee more clearly; to love thee – more dearly… Day by day…’ Yes, Ben Stiller had me falling on the floor, laughing out loud (that’s FOF-LOL for my texting friends) with his fumbling quote of a song in lieu of saying ‘grace.’

Actually, he was brilliant! Those lyrics are a fabulous prayer. After all, prayer is only conversation with the Lord. Prayer is like our public or private declaration of what’s on our hearts and mind directed to our creator. I believe God wants us to have Him on our minds and tell Him about it; or ask Him what He thinks. Additionally, He is always interested in what you think (unless you’ve gotten on His last good nerve-so to speak).

So, in this busy lifestyle of ours; why not take time to talk to Him… just talk to Him! We don’t always have to have a ‘wish list’ in our hip pocket. Put Jesus on your ‘favorites’ list. Who knows, you just might– Be Blessed: Day-by-day
