Change Your Mind !

27 09 2015

By Rev. C. .Acosta    September 27, 2015

John, the baptizing Prophet (PBUH*) of Palestine was an Ascendant, reportedly living in isolation out by the Jordan River in Judea.  It is written that he ate locusts and wild honey.  He wore camel hair clothing that was little more than a covering for protection from the elements,

Having a large following of adherents to his lifelong wisdom teachings; we can understand that he had ascended to a high level of knowledge while isolating his life in the wilderness; thereby divesting himself of the last vestiges of society, custom and any other kinds of conscious resistance within himself or flowing from others (the less evolved).  This man obtained many answers learning in the Temples of knowledge in his youth and in adulthood while isolating himself.    John the Baptist  (3.)

Most traditional purveyors of the message of John usually smile, shrug and keep on reading after describing Johns living and dietary habits.   Most Preachers want to quickly reach the part where the Prophet shouts:  “Repent! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!” (1)                     However, let’s back up a minute and look at some things.  The background description that is recorded of this ancient Ascendant specifically notes John’s lifestyle as being alone or isolated off from the surrounding community of his geographic location.  The Judean ruler, Herod the Tetrarch, local religious officials, spies, snitches and even the many adherents of his message; all had to travel a little uncomfortably, just to “get” to John.

However, John didn’t just pop up on the scene yelling and screaming, “Repent!” as Scripture has ofttimes been misinterpreted or neglected to be correctly taught.   No, John had been teaching, preaching and strongly leading the way for thousands throughout the region who sought him for his teachings based upon the desire of the ages: To know the Truth.

In fact, we read that Jesus called John the “Greatest or Chief” of all Prophets “born of a woman” that had come before, there was none greater than John

Accounts of John that are most familiar in Judeo-Christian teachings focuses upon  the initiation of baptism for the symbolic remission of sins; his recognition of Jesus as “The Lamb of God;” and lastly Herod the Tetrarchs’ horrific beheading of John while imprisoned

The message began as any other principle must; with discipline.  As Christians, without personal discipline in our tri-level being; one can turn to either becoming a self-deceiving, pious fraud or a pretentious zealot.  Most of us exist somewhere between the boundaries of either extremes as we bounce around in our inconsistencies.

The message of the Prophet John has been desecrated down through the ages to mean groveling before a Church full of congregants and asking forgiveness of member-perceived sins.  For example: A woman becomes pregnant out of wedlock; answer? Grovel in front of the feigned shock of the membership.  A man cheats on his wife with another woman; answer? Come to Church and grovel.  Don’t forget to show up regularly and volunteer often for any and all service-related functions.  Most of all, don’t forget to bring cash!

These displays may make for a good Sunday morning show and the Church coffers increase substantially; depending on the depravity of the transgression.  However, this is totally not what the Prophet John (the Baptizer) was requesting out there in the wilderness.  He was telling us to “Change our mind,” to go beyond (meta-, a prefix in Hellenistic Greek of the Jewish writings of the first century) our thinking (noia), a derivative of the Greek, nous meaning, mind); thus “Repent” is written in original Greek manuscripts as Metanoia: To change ones mind.

The best working, usable translation is “conversion” of ones thinking; to go beyond as well as within; seeking God as we seek to transform the way we’ve lived, believed, and thought.   To set ourselves to become a higher thinking person; aligned with God in our thoughts and our conduct.

In religious society, the sorrow-filled, looking back, groveling, self-shaming regret for past deeds [since the past can never be changed] has no place in Johns’ proclamation.  Biblical scholars from the time of Tertullian (2.), a second century scholar of the Scriptures, up until the scholars of the 21st century all agree; that the mistranslation of the word “repent” has been Christianity’s greatest tragedy. Therefore, to paraphrase the Prophet John; his message would sound more like this:

Repent!”  [Seek to convert, transform and upgrade your thinking!]

For the Kingdom of Heaven…” [God’s reign and God’s way of doing things…]

Is at hand…”   [close by –prophesying/referencing the advent of Christ’s earthly ministry].

Be ye baptized…”  [Act! Symbolic water submergence of body, mind and soul in preparation; the cleansing of oneself in order to start fresh and to drown the past].

If you or a loved one has been suffering, tormented by sins of the past and cannot seem to get beyond those misdeeds; earnestly, faithfully seek Creator God’s forgiveness, and His way of seeing the world.  Seek Him and His way to cleanse your thoughts and conduct.  HE loves us with an unending love.  In a word…  Repent!

Be Blessed!

Primary Colors Was Right

20 02 2014

Just watched the movie “Primary Colors” through “On Demand.”   Cathy Bates was fantastic as the ‘all heart, ‘Get er done’ campaign promoter.    At one point her character gets so fed up with the campaign’s hypocrisy, she states:

“I will burn this village in order to save it…”MSDPRCO EC006       Primary Colors

My take away is that she was willing to tell the truth and not blink regarding the possible fall-out of the consequences; even if all that she’d help build was (metaphorically) destroyed in the process.

That kind of passion reminded me that Our Lord and Savior gave his very life for the truth that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us since HE came to bring us that very truth.

At one point, Jesus looked upon Solomon’s (original) Temple in Jerusalem; having over time, disintegrated into a symbol of artificial religion run amok.    Self-promotion had swept the people so far off course with its’ hierarchical rules and fake regulations that few if any could adhere to; let alone the leaders that espoused same. HE commented (prophesied) to His disciples that: “… a day will come when not one stone will stand upon another…”

From the comfort of my leather theater chair in my den, this writer tearfully watched the city of Kiev Ukraine go up in flames on the evening news.    Praying, “Lord help them…  Lord have mercy for rulers that would kill their own people whose only crime is that they are tired of their leaders’ self-promotions for his personal gains.”

Daily, we drive by countless semi-empty Churches where ministers refuse to let go of the egocentric reigns of power and allow the Giftings of the Holy Spirit to flow among the people; meeting spiritual needs of healings both internal and external; preferring in His place, works of the flesh: Raffles, fundraisers, various programs, and awards.

Watching Primary Colors and hearing that line delivered so passionately by the actress, Cathy Bates; I was reminded of something our Lord Jesus said:

Matthew 16:15-19    –   New International Version (N.I.V.)
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah (the Christ), the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[d] loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 16:18 The Greek word for Peter means rock.
Matthew 16:18 Hades; That is, the realm of the dead
Matthew 16:19 Or will have been
Matthew 16:19 Or will have been
*Thanks to the good folks at  always

Our focus: Verse 19 “…and the gates of Hades will not overcome it…”

Satan wants the Church to die…   By any means necessary.    If he has to promote people who would run off believer’s in droves through offense, schisms, made-up rules and downright lies…   Well, so be it as far as he’s concerned.    You must understand by now that Satan never has played fair.

However, although our Lord did not say that a grave-like death will not COME to the Church; He DID say that the grave-like death will NOT Overcome the Church.

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is alive and well in the hearts of men and woman all over the world, because of the Holy Spirit.    Church is not owned by any one group; any one race; any one political party; or denomination…    Church is not a religion.      Praise God for that!

No, the authentic Church (the gathering of the Ecclesia or ‘the called-out’ one’s the Believer’s) of the Lord Jesus Christ cannot be held in the grave (a lifeless state of being) any more than its’ founding Father could be held in the grave; for He is Life.

The authentic Church of the Lord Jesus, the Christ, cannot be held and compartmentalized within four walls and upon hard pews once a week for 45-90 minutes; reduced to one fast hymn, one slow hymn and two collections.

We may be meeting in small groups; meeting in homes; meeting in restaurants; found hand holding and sharing prayers during a hasty lunchtime or chatting about the love of Christ in the side aisle of a store, but “We” are alive and we are well!   We are loving one another as we see the Day approaching of HIS return.

The prerequisite for having the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven was belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the son of the Living God.    If you believe that, then let us BIND the works of the ego and LOOSE the love of Christ onto whosoever is willing.  Let us BIND the ravaging spirit of murder and LOOSE the Peace of Christ to our own hearts (first) and plead the same in His name as we remember: The people of Kiev, the people of Syria, the people of the Sudan, the people of Afghanistan, the people of Egypt, the people of Turkey, the people of America, the people if Iraq, the people of Jordan, and the people of Iran.    Let us LOOSE the power of Grace to those who are: Angry; bitter; stressed; homeless; lonely; mourning; those on drugs and hating their addictions; the sick; the elderly and the people who must make a life or death decision at this very moment!   Grace to you… and the Peace of our Lord Jesus; the Prince of Peace.    May this Spirit of the Living God rest upon you; keeping your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.  Amen
Unlocking Dreams

We BIND the spirit of despair and LOOSE the power of Peace and Love to the leaders of all those half-empty Churches who are at the brink and tempted to sell-out for money; tempted to turn away from God’s Word and seek self-fame or those on the verge of giving up in hopelessness.

“We” say to you: Choose Life, choose Love, choose Peace…   Choose Jesus.

If you must tear up your five-year plan; your too-good-to-be-true contract; or perhaps finally confront that Simon-the-Sorcerer-manipulating member who holds out huge “Donations” in order to get their way, and if you must rip up your people-pleasing sermon that shades the Word of God to no effect— If you must destroy all of this; only to repent and start anew…    So be it!

We must be willing to effectively “…burn this village in order to save it!”   Amen.

Be Blessed!    The Light Keeper

Where Is the Love?

11 07 2013
If you can't love the one you have seen...

If you can’t love the one you have seen…

There are events that bring a variety of people into each other’s company like no other time: Weddings, the birth of a baby and funerals.

Recently a dear Christian friend passed away quite suddenly. No previous illness, no warning signs and definitely not from old age. It was said, “…the heart just stopped beating…” This was unfathomable to all who received this unsettling news.

The Ties That Bind
In the midst of weathering the “sting” and finality of death; there were those in attendance at the funeral service who decided to further their private agenda’s of divisiveness. This was accomplished by ignoring [neither speaking to, nor acknowledging] select individuals. They went as far as committing other demonstrations of personal disdain [refusing conciliatory handshakes or embraces].

The Irony and the Hypocrisy
These were not just random folks. These were ministers, former church members, former friends and sadly in some cases, relatives of one another. These were leaders of entire congregations. These are Sunday school teachers, teaching the commands of the Lord Jesus Christ to young and old alike. These are people who influence and lead within their communities, jobs, and their children at home. These are people who presumably are spreading the teachings of Jesus to “…love one another…”

This writer will not take credit for the keen insight of one of the “disdained” who after service remarked:

Isn’t it incredible to consider that the Lord God Almighty could have a civil conversation with Satan, but Christians refuse to converse with those they no longer include within their social circle? If we all believe we’re going to heaven; what will we do when we see each other there?”

Job 1:6-12 – New International Version (NIV)
6 One day the angels[a] came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan[b] also came with them. 7 The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
8 Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”
9 “…Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has and he will surely curse you to your face.”
12 The LORD said to Satan, “Very well then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Lost Art
The art of communication, conversation, well-wishing, and politeness; are all these part of the ‘lost art’ of being human? How can this kind of animosity thrive among those who say they are of the “Body” of our Lord and Savior? We put Him to an open shame by those who look for the “light of His glory,” shining within our lives and the lives of those we touch.

True Light
John 1:4 – “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind”
The light of reason, as well as the life of sense, are derived from Him, and depend upon Him. This eternal Word, this true Light shines, but the darkness comprehends it not. Let us pray without ceasing, that our eyes may be opened to behold this Light that we may walk in it; and thus be made wise unto salvation, by faith in Jesus Christ.

We know what to do:
Let us pray for those who despitefully use us…
“But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you…” Matthew 5:44 American King James Version (AKJV)

The authentic Church of the Lord Jesus has gone underground.

House Church Group

That may sound like a provocative statement, but let’s look at the evidence: Jesus taught and did miracles from house-to-house, town-to-town and within the local community Temple (a.k.a. Synagogue). News of His healings and provisional (food) miracles drew thousands that gathered, but His main ministry was person-to-person and house-to-house. His is the ministry of the Spirit and power of God (direct) to those perishing in body, soul and spirit.

Jesus constantly taught that loving, merciful ministration to fellow human beings is what He and Father-God desired in the earth. In fact, He came to set the captives Free! Free from religious dogma and divisions. The twelve Apostles received the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room just as Jesus had prophesied that they would. In the power of the Holy Spirit, they set out. What they built upon the foundation of Christ’s cross is still “turning the world upside down.”

Is the Church today ineffective?

What few consider is that Satan is and always has been an enemy to all humanity; a “Pretender-to-the-Throne” that is only inhabited by our Lord Jesus, the Christ. In these last days before the coming of the Lord to reap His own; Satan has declared all out war on the Church.

Satan: The Prince of the power of the air

War? How do we fight back?

In the book of Revelation 2:13, Jesus declares to us that He is fully aware that Satan is sitting in the “Highest seat” within His Church and that there will be a “Great falling away” of Believer’s [First Thessalonians 2:1-3]. The good news is that our Lord did not leave us as orphans, but has provided grace and strength to us and gathers us through His Holy Spirit, to lead, guide and direct us into all *righteousness (*moral perfection; deception-free living). John 14:18

Among the leadership and those who follow them in many North American institutions (so-called churches) today there is more: Confusion; Hierarchical power-grabbing; Back-biting gossiping; Moral perversion; Greed/Wealth-focused excess; Socio/Political-Racial-Economic-Gender-based Divisions and Emotional manipulation than among a den of thieves.

There used to be great sadness connected to this statement having witnessed firsthand (coast-to-coast) these awful displays within what was reported to be the Lord’s House. However, in checking the Prophetic word throughout the Holy Bible; it is understood that “these things need be,” thereby fulfilling prophecy.

Wounded? Our prayer is for those who at one time have been wounded through these “Synagogues of Satan” masquerading as the Church; is to hold on and know that the real, or authentic church of our Lord is not gone or ‘taken over,’ but alive, well and living within each heart that receives Jesus as Lord and Savior. Wherever two or more are gathered together in His name; there He (still) is in the midst of us.

Now What?

  •  Let us gather together family, neighbors, friends, children and strangers.
  • Call upon the Lord Jesus; read; study His word (Holy Bible); pray; praise; sing to the Lord.
  • Worship the Lord.
  • Heed (hear and do) the leading of the Holy Spirit.
  • Operate (work, be active, share) in your Gifting(s) and be at peace with all men (people).

Above all: Love one another. Let us be wise in the knowledge of His love for us as we see the time approaching of our Lord’s soon return.

Gathered in His name...

Believers Who Have Died

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of humanity, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

And so, as we see the time approaching of the coming of our Lord, we continue our labor of love in the earth with “Pastor Bill” as our very good example.

Now I Lay me down to sleep...”

How many human beings would love the luxury of a good nights sleep, but cannot due to: The ravages of sickness and disease; perhaps sleepless nights keeping watch in the midst of their war-torn communities; or as traumatized victims of weather and climatic upheavals rendering them homeless.

“… I pray the Lord my soul to keep…”

Wallace in 1975, three years after he was paralyzed in an assassination attempt. In his later years, Wallace reached out to civil rights activists and black churches to ask forgiveness.

Not widely reported outside of his home state, but Governor George Wallace; the radically racist Governor of Alabama (circa 1960’s); repented and spent his last days in philanthropic endeavors inclusive of all-Black Churches whose members came to forgive,  love and accept him as “Just another sinner saved by grace, like the rest of us.”
